Old Customs House

I visited The Old Custom House on 36 Charoen Krung in Bang Rak. Then I read this from a Bangkok Blogger - Richard Barrow - "the firemen and marine police have already moved out. They will start renovations next year to turn it into a hotel. So be quick if you want photos."

I was searching for some Street Art and I took the wrong road.

There is a wonderful building on the sides of the river.

Take a trip on a motorbike taxi

The author of this post takes no responsibility for indicating that this is something that you must try whilst you are in Thailand.

BUT

if you need to weave through the traffic and get to that meeting?

if you promised that special person you would meet them for lunch?

BUT

be prepared to meet other people thinking the same thing

they might be on the pavement?

they might just be ordering a coffee?

Look both ways when you cross the road...

but try it once...

Here's the cost of them...

Soi Rommanee / Rommani

Soi Rommanee was a place for amusement (to be polite) in previous times but it may be a short street but it is a popular attraction in Phuket Old Town.

There has been some restorations and some hostels have been incorporated inside the older buildings bur preserving the old character.

At one end is the Thalang Road where the Walking Street Market takes place and at the other end is Wat Puttamongkon / Wat Mongol Nimit.

Simply put it is a lovely part of Phuket Town - couples choose to have their wedding photograph here.

The fronts of the buildings have retained the original character - adding to the character of the short stroll.

There are new coffee shops open there now but we have yet to try to them - good luck, it is a lovely street in Phuket Old Town to walk down.

Wat Rong Khun - วัดร่องขุ่น - The White Temple

Wat Rong Khun is a strange twist on the traditional Buddhist Temples - it is in white. To many people it is known as the White Temple.

It is actually a privately owned Buddhist Temple - it is owned by and designed by Chalermchai Kositpipat - a Thai visual artist who has travelled over Asia - specifically Hindu architecture - and put together his experiences, even coming to the notice of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Well it is really quite spectacular - even reaching the number one attraction in Chiang Rai on TripAdvisor

Well there is not a lot more I feel that I can add to these photographs - visually magnificent and from a mind of someone special.

These are the toilets - and inside they are immaculate.

Then I am sure that the designer watched Alien?

This is the dangers of drink...

With being visually so stunning this has meant that it can be quite crowded with coaches of tourists at about 11am.

Sammakorn / ตลาดนัดสัมมากร Market

Sammakorn Market is a large area which is dedicated to 50% food and 50% to a Thai style Market. It is housed under a simple tinned structure and it can get a little crammed. So let's start with the food and what a pleasure it is to see so much under one roof - okay I might not be looking at the food to be prepared for the kitchen but I didn't have a kitchen at this point but my family were shopping for fresh food - and very nice it was too.

For me though I was lost with the choices - Sakoo Sai Mai / สาคูใส้หมู - even allowing me to have one whilst the rest were being packed.

Then there were the prawns - wow - I don't normally see them this size in our last local market.

There there was the fresh pineapple

and the cakes

and the roti sai mai was delicious (it always is)

the fresh bamboo and the bugs... After my fill was made I turned to what is called a 'flea market' - not a term to be used for all of the bits here

- this shop was glamorous. Then this shop was cheap - well in fact a lot of the clothes were cheap...

Then there was Logan and his friends to play with...

Then I met Peter Rabbit and his friends.

Then origami shop - which I was dragged away from before I knew exactly what it was

and of course somewhere to buy a bag to put all your purchases in to take home with you.

But i guess not all the kids are interested in shopping.
