Wat Lokayasutharam

Wat  Lokayasutharam is a Buddhist Wat (and it's surrounding area) which we were lucky to visit when we were visiting Ayutthaya.

The people selling you pieces were quietly visible - to put it simply the visit was beautiful.

Even the feet...

The focus of the visit was clearly the reclining Buddha -

The important feature Wat Lokayasutharam is a huge reclining Buddha image, called Phra Bhuddhasaiyart, which faces to the east. It was constructed of bricks and cement in the art style cf the Middle Ayutthaya Period. It is 37 meters long and 8 meters high - http://www.ayutthaya2020.com/phranoon.asp.

There was really not a lot more to find out but that it was part of a greater area.

Happy to see no abuse of the area.

The beauty of our visit was the serene quality of the face...

Wat Thammarakit - Ayutthaya

Wat Thammarakit is another temple in Ayutthaya which had been rebuilt twice - the last time some of the the Burmese apparently started to melt some of the Buddha monuments for the precious metals. This is a great site for more information.

Wow - another place which is beautiful. There is actually a reclining Buddha inside of the buildings so it is worth taking a wander throughout the buildings.

Then there was the LED lighting surrounding some of the monuments - strangely serene and beautiful.

There was also a PC - but I did not know what was going on.

Then we were received by a monk - this was certainly the place that we were supposed to be...

We purchased some roof tiles and marble floor for the rebuilding of the temple - it did feel good.

Then there were the beautiful gardens.

Then some of the temples had the 'Naga' staircases -  don't think that they are the originals though?

Not sure of the title to this - but it was calming...

The Buddha's footprint to ask for a blessing. Ayutthaya is certainly a beautiful place to visit if you want to visit some temples - this was our trip.

Wats we visited
 1) Wat Koh Kaew
 3) Wat Phanancheong (วัดพนัญเชิงวรวิหาร)
 6) Wat Thammarakit (วัดธรรมิกราช)

Wat Koh Kaew - Ayutthaya

Wat Koh Kaew (วัดเกาะแก้ว) is a Wat which we visited on our trip to Ayutthaya and is sometimes referred to as the Monastery of the Crystal Island and is still an active temple in Ayutthaya in the Kramang Sub-District.

BUT as I write this I find there are other temples in Ayutthaya with the same or similar names? There is a Wat Koh Kaew in Phuket...

A wonderful description can be found here.

I was simply taken by the simple beauty of it all

and it was clear that it was steeped in history - a wonderful place.

We found a much more than we imagined.

Ayutthaya was certainly a place to visit if you want to visit any number of temples.

Wat Phananchoeng (วัดพนัญเชิงวรวิหาร) - Ayutthaya

Wat Phananchoeng is actually referred to as a Buddhist Temple and a Historical Site on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River at the south-eastern side of the confluence of the Chao Phraya and Pa Sake rivers.

It really is quite lovely - it is a Buddhist temple in the city of Ayutthaya, Thailand. The main feature is the enormous golden Buddha in the main building.

At the bottom of the statue it really is quite lovely.

Prayers are often made at the bottom of this.

It is a popular tourist attraction so it might be quite busy but with predominantly Thai visitors - in terms of Historical interest the first building of the temple was in 1324 - some 26 years before the city of Ayutthaya was officially found! (It is next to the main river so there is always something adjacent to see.)
