Bangkok Dolls

Bangkok Dolls is a company which has been "creating a great variety of exquisite handmade collectible Thai Dolls". I did not know what to expect but I had read a little about it so I set off on a walkBangkok Dolls was near a dual carriageway and down some small roads - it was sign posted but I was a little worried, GOOGLE does not always give you the best directions...

But then again this was the sign I missed.

"Bangkok Dolls" are authentically handcrafted to the most minute detail. Exstensive research precedes each design. Antique costumes have been based on museum originals, temple murals, and illustrations from antique books. Contemporary costumes such as those of the Farmer and Hilltribe dolls faithfully reproduce the clothing and ornaments of these people. - http://www.bangkokdolls.com/collection

Wow - what an amazing place to find! There are a great many different dolls that are made here!

It may be a very small place to visit and yes it will not be something for everybody but if you are in the area it is definitely worth a visit.

Parutsakawan Palace

The Parutsakawan Palace is somewhere that I stumbled upon when I tried one of the Walking Tours for BangkokI had seen the building when I had visited the King Rama V statue for the flower display at the beginning of the year.

I paid little attention to it because the sign at the front indicate that it was the Police Museum and I walked past. The next time was different.

Wow - it was a beautiful house - the gardens outside were beautiful.
So I walked around the house before entering - finding the Police Museum at the back - I wanted cream tea on the lawn out the back as well.

Inside the house it was quite spectacular and the history is an interesting read.

The rooms are well kept and the choice of architecture was very European?

and the all have displays regarding the history of the building - a fascinating read, if that is what you are looking for - me, I liked the gardens.

HOPs - the House of Paws

HOPs - the House of Paws is a Pet Cafe in Siam.

They are not my particular choice  of a place to visit but you must visit once and my daughter does enjoy them!

Find them a little expensive personally and the drinks they make you buy not something I liked and either of us finished.

The Little Zoo

The Little Zoo is one of the popular cafes in Bangkok with animals running around.

I am not all that comfortable with this personally but I have visited them because my daughter likes to and then bring her friends.

There were some interesting animals here and they seemed to be well cared for.

The food was not something to come for and the coffee was passable, but expensive.

The cats like it though...

Red Cross Snake Farm

The Snake Farm in Bangkok is somewhere I can remember going about thirty years ago - imagine my trepidation when my daughter was interested to see some - especially after the disastrous Siam Serpentarium

The building was opened in 1913 and was known as the Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute. Following this the Royal Family became involved because the daughter of a Prince in Thailand died from rabies – the King supported a government institution researching into creating a vaccine for rabies and venomous snakes.

In 1917 it became the Pasteur Institute and the Red Cross Society took over the administrative duties.   Following the death of Queen Saovabha the King built a permanent memory to her and for it to be used for research in the field of research into medical science.

Apparently it was one of the World's first collections of poisonous snakes!

Built in a French style is the much admired older buildings at the front.

But at the back was the farm - a little rundown - but you were not here to see the building it was the snakes!

And snakes there certainly were - it was a small area to walk in - wandering around took about half an hour - but we spent about an hour!

Then it was into the building at the back for the snake exhibition

- information and skeletons...

Then it was time for the show - wow and more wow

It is certainly worth visiting if you are in Bangkok and have an interest in this sort of thing – for more information please click here - http://www.bangkok.com/magazine/snake-farm.htm.

Everywhere you are looking.

Looking at these photographs they are wonderful...

Bangkok Art and Culture Museum

It was interesting to see that the BACC is always having more displays of something different - but on a similar guidelines.

Loved the finished bridge - not sure that it stops a lot of sun though!

They had some wonderful paintings on display this time.

Of course little stalls set up with bits and pieces which are always interesting to browse through.

But what these are I do not know because the door was locked.

Then there was this fabulous model.

Then it was time for something to eat on the ground floor - it was very nice.

Loved the umbrellas - seen this before somewhere
