After living in Phuket for 16 years we moved to Bangkok 

- here are some beaches to visit in Phuket.

This was a deserted beach when we visited in 2012 and it looked very similar when we visited 4 years later.

There was some development adjacent to the beach but I was a little skeptical that it was going to be completed - but let's see.

Then there was the much written about Dream Beach Club - not been there but there was nobody there when we visited - maybe it is not open all year?

But we were there for the beach and it was divine - the snake shook us up a little it but it did not stay for long...

Nothing more than the beach there when we went - we were looking for a bite to eat but this was a perfect location for a picnic...

Rawai Beach and Seafood Market

Rawai beach was somewhere we visited because it usually on our way to somewhere else but very rarely do we stop for the beach - more for the restaurants along the beach - see my restaurant blog for this - Nikita's is our most popular stop here (for Thai or pizza).

This time we were to look at going onto the beach and we realised that there was a different type or restaurant there - a Bring Your Own. 

On the right there are a plethora of people selling fresh fish and then you take the fish to the restaurant on the left and then they cook it for you and I did not know how it worked (do you?) so we chose somewhere else.

Then there are a number of street shops selling the hanging shells...

Then the pearls...

Then I saw an elephant tusk - certainly not usual.

After this it meant a walk on the beach.

The sunset began to come down and we went to dinner at Baan Had Rawai.

 

The pier was beautiful as the sun began to come down...

Then the other side was beautiful - certainly a place to visit...

Kata Beach

Kata Beach is actually a very long beach with a number of with a number of hotels - we spent our Honeymoon at Mom Tri Royale, a lovely place. 

There did not seem to be many people when we visited (well the North End) - there was a lot of action there whilst we visited. As you can see we were quite close to the edge of the road.

But we spent most of our time running back and forth to the water.

Then coming back for a snack. We were offered food by sales persons walking past and we usually had the ice creams - the fried rice was no longer cooked on the beach but cooked on the other side of the food and they had a 'runner' for them. We lay there in the shade  or played in the ocean - but it is worth it.

BUT the South End seemed to be more occupied towards renting out the paragliding.

Always worth a go once and understand there are jet-ski but I am not so sure about that!

The whole of the east side of the island does have red flags during the year (between April and October usually) and I would suggest not swimming but thank you to the Lifeguards who have been there this year (2016).

We stayed close to the edge for the shade

whilst there were seats and umbrellas to rent. There is a Live Web Cam above the Foto Hotel (far above it) and there are also a number of hotels - thanks Jamie

Nai Harn beach

Nai Harn beach is somewhere that we first went when our daughter was learning to swim. It has always been a place which we have driven past and have enjoyed visiting - even if it was just for 10 minutes. Today we stayed for the afternoon.

Nai Harn beach is not far from a Monastery - the quiet Samna Song Nai Harn Monastery and an island which is used by camping, more famous 'The Royal Phuket Yacht Club', a nearby Wat (which I have yet to visit) and a few beach side places to eat BUT surprisingly it is a relatively tranquil place.

I must add though that it is clear that the water is not suitable for swimming during the months of May to October and there should be red flags flying. 

There are dogs allowed on the beach which does put some people off but it has never affected us.

The special place that we used a lot was the islet for the island - which I understand has now been made safer because it drew water it through a channel. The beauty of this beach is that it can be so long and so lovely there is a 'water draw' from the lake behind but this seems only to effect the islet area.

This time it did - it left a lot of stuff there though and no doubt it was always there. There does seem to be an element of people who come here are families so it does make it very attractive to us.

They had a couple here for some wedding photographs here today - I wonder what there photographs are like - here are the weddings that I take care of.

Then there were other people on a parasail (or motorised)

and then the tree with the lost shoes - wonderful. We will always visit here.

Nai Yang Beach

Nai Yang Beach does not have a lot written about it because it is not really a very commercial beach at all.

There are no sunbeds (not everywhere now either) and there is no people selling you products.

This means that you will find a majority of local people who come here with their families - but please recognise the specific flags on the beach!

If you are here early in the morning you will see the local fishermen arrive with their catches and sell them to the local people - but this is early for this!

Today there was someone having some Wedding Photographs. We stayed here one evening because there was a road block to the exit of Phuket Island!

The beach is long and the beach and did not have a lot of rubbish on it - but I do wonder where all the tree remains had come from?

Worth a visit if you are travelling past here but to go here just for the beach? Peace and quiet with a picnic then it is wonderful.

Kata Beach

Kata Beach is a popular beach of ours because it is quite a long stretch of beach and the tide goes out  long way which leaves a big width of sand to play in.

Disadvantages are that there does not seem to be any degree of public management of the waste that comes onto the beach and that there are red flags posted.

So we go to the very Northern end of the beach where there is a natural inlet and the waves are not big BUT we DO NOT enter when the red flags are up. We do take some food with us however because the main food sellers are towards the South - so take something with you.

Since the coup in 2014 we have not been back so the 'Fisherman Restaurant' on the side may well have been pulled down - it was still there when we looked...



The sun beds may not also be allowed to set up here...
