Bangkok Dolls

Bangkok Dolls is a company which has been "creating a great variety of exquisite handmade collectible Thai Dolls". I did not know what to expect but I had read a little about it so I set off on a walkBangkok Dolls was near a dual carriageway and down some small roads - it was sign posted but I was a little worried, GOOGLE does not always give you the best directions...

But then again this was the sign I missed.

"Bangkok Dolls" are authentically handcrafted to the most minute detail. Exstensive research precedes each design. Antique costumes have been based on museum originals, temple murals, and illustrations from antique books. Contemporary costumes such as those of the Farmer and Hilltribe dolls faithfully reproduce the clothing and ornaments of these people. - http://www.bangkokdolls.com/collection

Wow - what an amazing place to find! There are a great many different dolls that are made here!

It may be a very small place to visit and yes it will not be something for everybody but if you are in the area it is definitely worth a visit.

Wat Intharawat - วัดอินทราวาส

Wat Intharawat - วัดอินทราวาส is somewhere we where taken by a driver when we were in Chiang Mai.

This simple and beautiful viharn, open pavillion and large open mondop was built in 1958 in Lanna style and it is certainly impressive.

The gardens around the Wat are immaculately cared for and on reading about it I find that the because it is one of the very few remaining wooden temples in Thailand that you can find AND is under the care of the Thai Fine Arts Department - thanks for the info RenownTravel.

The roof of the temple is incredibly detailed and it is nice to know that it is protected.

Around the temple there are small open corridors (there is a name which I cannot recall) which are quite beautiful and it is worth walking round them quite slowly.

Bangpu Recreation

Bangpu Recreation.com สถานตากอากาศบางปู is somewhere we came to because there was an enormous lot of traffic - after we had visited ธรรมกตัญญู (เสียนหลอไต้เทียนกง) - which must be done.

The Bangpu Recreation is at the end of a long pier. This specific pier however is very long and there are a great number of seagulls flying overhead.

At one end there are also people selling food for you to feed them.

Someone also created a love heart of sticks in the water for the seagulls to sit on.

Getting to the end of the pier there was a very large restaurant - which was extremely popular - and we walked to the very end and chose not to eat there and ate elsewhere - Mae Cuisine.

Dusit Zoo

Dusit Zoo is somewhere that I can remember visiting when I first visited Thailand in 1985 and I read here that it was founded in 1938.

This does mean that this is very much a traditional 'old school' zoo so some people may not enjoy their visit here wen they see the traditional way that some of the animals are kept.

We arrived early in the morning and the dual pricing for foreigners was clearly present - but today I could not be bothered to argue - I paid the 150 Baht whilst my family paid the 100 Baht. We hired some bicycles so we could cycle around the zoo and we found that this was a very good idea.

Then we decided to join the tour of the zoo in the bus - which was a good idea to know where you wanted to stop - and then got back on our bicycles.

My daughter loved all the animals

and I was happy that the crocodile pen was not over run with them like the crocodile shows in Phuket.

Strange to find a 'Dust Zoo Air-Raid Shelter there - then reading the history about it I found that it was specifically built during the Second World War to protect visitors to the zoo!

"Dusit Zoo was originally a botanical garden called "Khao Din Wana”. King Rama V, during his foreign country visits became impressed of botanical gardens as a place for entertainment and relaxation of people, and so His Majesty advised that a botanical garden should be established in Thailand. In 1895, His Majesty gave royal permission for the garden to be built on land east of Premprachakorn canal, across from Chitrlada Palace." - for more information.

We cycled around the zoo - stopping at each place to look at the animals

then it was time for some lunch

and then the paddle boats.

We did not take swimming costumes to play in the pool but that was there as well. I recall using an App but I can no longer find it.

Wat Srakesa

Wat Srakesa is where I think I was - and the outside photograph indicates - but it is not clear from the images.

There are a number of Wats in the area around the Golden Mount and this was one of them BUT the Golden Mount is also referred to as Wat Srakesa.  Looking carefully at the Google Map there are 3 smaller temples at the base of the Golden Mount so this maybe one of them?

It was a Wat which was well looked after and was popular with Thai people coming in to worship and there were a handful of tourists.

It is certainly worth visiting this area.

Please act with respect when entering Buddhist Temples.

Devasathan (Brahmin Temple)

Devasathan (Brahmin Temple) is adjacent to the Giant Swing and a number of other attractions.

Unfortunately no photographs were allowed to be taken inside. But there were three temples of Hindu origin here and it was quite peaceful.

ศาลเจ้ามูลนิธิธรรมกตัญญู - Samut Prakan

We saw ศาลเจ้ามูลนิธิธรรมกตัญญู (เสียนหลอไต้เทียนกง / 暹罗代天宫) when were travelling to
Samut Prakan.

Then when I began to try to find about it this I was quite struck with how little there was (or it was in Thai and/or Chinese). Apart from Richard Barrow who has also visited there.

The entrance is really quite un-dramatic.

Then on entering into an enormous courtyard the area is very large and the amount of buildings is extensive and off to the right is quite a large garden.

So we started in the gardens - beautifully maintained.

Even the lizard liked them.

The corridors blended with the garden.

Back into the main building - the corridors were immaculate.

and the areas between were immaculate.

And the doorways were exquisite.

The walk ways between some of the buildings were quite stunning.

Then the displays were very intricate.

Even the roofs were worth looking at.

Whilst you are looking up then their are some quite wonderful ceilings. This was certainly a wonderful Chinese Shrine to visit - thank you.
