The Grand Palace

The Grand Palace is an impressive place
that you must visit!

There is an App for the Grand Palace that you really must download OR read a lot of background on it.

The ground was consecrated by monks in 1782 (the first year that Bangkok was the Capital City and had 'rule'. Most of the architecture (but not all) can be classified as Bangkok or Ratanakosin style - with differences.

It is impressive, colourful, clean, polished and it is clear that it is an important part of the history and culture of Thailand.

It houses the House of the Emerald Buddha (but we were too late and we were not allowed to take a photograph inside) amongst a plethora of other attractions.

In fact "photographs speak louder than words sometimes" and a link to one of the best sites which I found to give an overview to your trip into the Grand Palace.

Note: beware of the 'helpful people' who tell you that the Grand Palace is closed but they will take you somewhere special...

Kwan-Riam Floating Market

Kwan-Riam Floating Market - ตลาดน้ำขวัญเรียม, is a market which is next to a khlong and there are some shops on the water and you are able to take trips on the water - so it is not really a 'floating market'.

It is only open on the weekends and it is an extremely popular place for the local Thai people to meet.

Interestingly it is so popular that they have parking spaces a short distance away and then  there are samlors to take you there and back.

The entrance is a large area - much like a warehouse and the centre of it is full of places to buy foooood and round the outside are smaller shops to buy mostly clothes and then there is a small zoo on the corner of animals that you can feed...

Then over the bridge to more food to eat...

and here was where I tried my first rainbow cheese...

Then there were the seats that were bathtubs...

Then back over again to Wat Bang Peng Tai.

Wat Sri Lam วัดศรีเอี่ยม

Wat Sri Lam วัดศรีเอี่ยม was on a journey we were making somewhere and we stopped off.

It was a peaceful Wat to visit and it was extremely quiet.

There roofs were really quite lovely and I wish that I was able to get a photograph with all the small sparkles that are there at the particular afternoon that I was there. There was plenty of parking space which was extremely helpful.

Taking the steps upstairs was where I started

Inside was an ornate place to pay respect.

The ceilings are always a place to look at. And then on coming down I saw there was a pathway adjacent to the main building.

Following this to underneath the the Wat I found another place where you could visit and pay respect.

Fascinating.
