South wind Books - Second Hand bookshop

Living in Phuket i found that the books from the shops are very expensive - so I have taken to popping into South Wind books in Phuket Town.  The shop is opposite Siam Indigo - a lovely restaurant that serves fusion food and is in the heart of old Phuket Town.

To see what I am reading at the moment be my friend on facebook OR

An interesting place to know about if you live here - but I am very lucky that so many guests share their books with me...... thank you to you all.

Phuket Town - market

They are still building the new market in Phuket Town.  There are a plethora of stories about why the property is not completed - from they now want to put in air-conditioning to there is confusion as to what was agreed with the stall holders originally.

But there is still an example of what the market was like previously - well not exactly - there are no dogs, hanging meat and rats running around - the similar market is around the corner.

Great fun if you want to have a try of the local delicacies.
Have a go.

Butterfly Garden and Insect World (closed April 2015)

After visiting the Butterfly Garden and Insect World in Phuket Town for the first time I took part in a Butterfly Release.

Now we cannot stay away - our daughter Jemma (2 yrs 8 mths) thinks that the place is wonderful - I wonder if they do a season ticket?

It is a very simple place to visit - you walk through a number of educational exhibits of the butterflies and the insects and then you are invited into the actual gardens. This is the highlight for Jemma - there are a plethora of butterflies and if you are really lucky they will sit on you somewhere.

There is also a breeding room - I am not sure why it is but it is is another location where you can get up close and personal.

There is another room where the butterflies are in cocoons which is also fun.

Don't forget to feed the fish in the gardens...........

Then there is a silk museum which explains what happens with all the threads from the cocoon.  A wonderful day out - the cost was 300 Baht per adult (over 10 years) - between 4 and 10 it is 150 Baht.
