Walking Routes in Bangkok - dolls and more



Stop 1: Witthayu Pier - a small pier for the river taxi on Wireless Road - a place to watch the boats speed up and down, or watch the sleeping?


Stop 2: L'Angollo Cafe - a great cafe on the corner of Wireless Road and Phetchauri Road, they have a great selections of coffee here 


Stop 3: Talad Neon Night Market - unfortunately during the day there is not a lot there apart from the row of tents 


Stop 4: Chinese Shrine - next to the Berkeley Hotel (Pratunam), a pleasure finding places like this


Stop 5: The alleyways were twisting and turning and there were more lanes here than what was on the map! 


Stop 6: Coffee Color Cafe -  a colourful cafe I passed after all those twists and turns - I popped in on the way back as well...


Stop 7: Bangkok Dolls was successfully reached - despite being guarded by a dog further up the road, a wonderful find if it interests you!!! 


Stop 8: Pratunam Market - a great market which just seems to get bigger when you are inside - prepared to be there a while - I was and most of the time was trying to get out!


Stop 10: ร้านลาบ ท่าเรือประตูน้ำ - a small restaurant slightly raised but next to the Khlong and Pratunam Pier - a great place for a bite to eat, certainly worth stopping here, outside but not crammed

Stop 11: Pratunam Pier and the river taxi is my way back to where I started, still use the river taxi as a great means to get around Bangkok

Walking Routes in Bangkok 5 - Rattanoskin


Route Five of the Walking Routes in Bangkok.
Stop 1: Mahakarn Fort is only one of the two original parts of the wall still standing in Bangkok and I read that it will be a National Park.

 Stop 2: Loha Prasart is a fascinating building with in so much more, certainly at least half a day - it is a metal structure with a total of 37 spires - nickname - the 'metal castle'.

Stop 3: The Giant Swing is certainly an interesting structure (built in 1784), it was originally used in an old Brahim ceremony but during the reign of Rama II the swing was damaged by lightning.

Stop 4:  Wat Thepthidaram Worawiham is a Royal Temple built in the 1930's and is known for it's Buddhist statues - and there are a lot of them.

Stop 5: A Vishnu Temple in the middle of two roads is a special place to find.

 Stop 6: Wat Suthat Theppwaram is another place which is not always on the Tour Guide - which means that it really is quite peaceful - with an Ordination Hall which is enormous, with a visit (were renovating it when I visited).

Stop 7:  A Hindu Temple (เทวสถานโบสถ์พราหมณ์) - peaceful temples but no photographs inside, worth visiting

 Stop 8: Baan Mohawaan was a place where traditional Thai medicine was made in 1870 and this is now being done by their grandchildren - fascinating place to find

Stop 7:  Trok Hmoo Market - a traditional Thai market - open very early in the morning , certainly an interesting place to visit


Stop 8:  The Sam Phreang District - an interesting place to visit and the culture there is still being kept alive, worth wandering around - find the Antique Car Coffee Shop


Stop 9:  The Gateway to Old Siam - exactly that


Stop 10:  Chaopho Chinese Shrine (ศาลเจ้าพ่อเสือ) - a Chinese Shrine, very busy but no photographs inside

Stop 11:  Baan Dinso  an original two storey home

Walking Routes in Bangkok: John Bush and more




Stop 1: Wat Suan Phlu - a small Wat, with a small reclining Buddha, lovely, a stop with making if you are in the area



Stop 3: Old Custom House - this is an amazing place, certainly an interesting place steeped in history, I wonder what will happen to it...


Stop 4: Haroon Mosque - a pocket of Muslim community and small surrounding neighbourhood 


Stop 5: Harmonique - a small Chinese restaurant in an old house, went in for a coffee, so that's all I can add - very popular with tourists and certainly photogenic 


Stop 6: Wat Muang Kae - a small Wat, next to a school but between tall skyscrapers and more


Stop 7: Street Art - a collection of popular street art along the wall 


Stop 8: Warehouse 30 - a collection of old Japanese warehouses now a set of trendy shops, art collections and more

Stop 9: House No.1 - a classical mansion on the vintage Captain Bush Lane, open for special events


Stop 10: Si Phraya Express Boat Pier - this is where you can get a boat on the Chao Phraya River, it's always worth getting it once

Walking Routes in Bangkok 3 - Thon Buri




Route Three of the Walking Routes in Bangkok.

Stop 1: Uncle's Noodle Restaurant - this was very busy with the locals

Stop 2: Wat Arun Ratchawaram Rathchaworamawihan OR Wat Arun - The Temple of the Dawn - this is such a beautiful place and has recently been renovated

Stop 3: Bang Luang Mosque - an impressive place to visit

 Stop 4: Wat Kalayanamit Woramahawihan - wow, next to the river and an enormous bell and a very big seated Buddha

Stop 5: Mae Kuan Yin Shrine ศาลเจ้าเกียนอันเกง - a Taoist Temple, next to the river

 Stop: Baan Kudichin Museum - a museum and coffee shop devoted to celebrating the ancient Portuguese area


Stop 6: The Church of Santa Cruz - a Catholic Church built in 1770

 Stop 7: Wat Prayunwongsawat Worawiharn - with a very large whitewashed stupa

 Stop 8: Guwatil Islam - unfortunately it was closed for renovation

Stop: Chao Pho Suea Shrine - a small Chinese Shrine

Stop 11: Wat Phitchaya Yatikaram Worawhawiharn - is a glorious temple and nearly empty!

Walking Routes in Bangkok 2 - Nang Leong


Route Two of the Walking Routes in Bangkok.


Stop 1: King Rama V Monument - พระบรมรูปทรงม้า - this is a Bronze equestrian statue dedicated to King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who ruled from 1853–1910 and where I recently visited for the display of flowers and the Winter Festival.


Stop 2: Paruskawan Palace - this is a historic site, it was built by King Rama V for his son after he returned from education in Russia, and it really is quite beautiful with it's gardens and cared for buildings, almost wanted afternoon tea in the garden.

Stop 3: The Police Museum at Paruskawan Palace - this museum is all about the evolution of the Thai Police - it has certainly changed a lot.


Stop 4: Wat Benchamabophit - The Marble Temple - because of the amount of Italian marble which was used to build it!  This was certainly a busy place - full of tourists



 Stop 5: Nang Leong Market - a wonderful and vibrant market selling mostly food, lovely people and all embracing, the food was plentiful but not sure about the coffee.

Stop 6: Admiral Shrine - at the back of the market but not sure that I found it because this one was raised?


Stop 7: Sala Chaloem Thani - this is one of the few remaining wooden cinemas in Bangkok, first screening in 1918, quite a special building, not sure what will happen to it though...


Stop 8: Wat Sunthon Tham Tham - unfortunately I was unable to get inside though.


Stop 9: Nang Leong Art - this is an original shop - these are ceramic pins made by the shop for funerals, culture and history all in one place


Stop 10: Ban Ten Ram Nang Loeng - this was a place for young girls who liked dancing and socialising and apparently this still happens here

Stop 11: Ban Naraslip - this is where the first Thai film production company was - Naraslip Cinema, and still provides information

Stop A: Eden's Coffee Shop - very photogenic cafe and has the drip coffee - a nice place, serves good but never had it            
Stop B: Statue of Prince Chumphon Khet Udomsak อนุสาวรีย์พลเรือเอกเจ้าฟ้าบรมวงศ์เธอกรมหลวงชุมพรเขตอุดมศักดิ์ - in front of a Naval Museum        
Stop C: สำนักงานคณะกรรมการป้องกันและปราบปรามการทุจริตแห่งชาติ (Office of The National Anti-Corruption Commission)  - not exactly sure what this is - it was closed

Stop D: Anywhere on the street for something to eat      


Stop E: A small home outside the Nang Long Market - this was certainly interesting and I thought I had read about this home somewhere...

Stop G: A Chinese pharmacy Nakhon Sawan Rd - this reminded me of being in Phuket Old Town, very interesting

Stop H: Royal Thai Government House Office ทำเนียบรัฐบาล - an impressive building on this  road, in fact there are quite a few on this road

Stop J: Rajadamnern Thai Boxing Stadium - established in 1945 and is recognised in the community as the oldest and greatest boxing stadium in Thailand
