Victory Monument

The Victory Monument in Bangkok was erected in June 1941 to commemorate the Thai victory in the Franco-Thai War, a brief conflict waged against the French colonial authorities in Indo-China, which resulted in Thailand annexing some territories in western Cambodia and northern and southern Laos - info from Wikipedia.

The monument is quite impressive and is surrounded by shopping malls and a market which is popular with the local people.

The location is also popular because of it is where the buses from all over Thailand arrive - so Usually make a visit here. However I have never tried to cross the road!

Erawan Buddah

The Erawan Shrine is a wonderful place to visit whilst you are in Bangkok, even since the bombing - I always do when I visited to work in Bangkok.

The Erawan Buddha Shrine was formally the Thao Maha Phrom Shrine and it is actually a Hindu Shrine - it houses a statue of Phra Phrom - the Thai representation of Lord Brahma.

The history of the Erawan Shrine is quite interesting as well

"The Erawan Shrine was built in 1956 to appease the supposed evil forces that were taking the lives of construction workers and causing other calamities in the construction what is now the Grand Hyatt Erawan. The misfortunes were caused, it seemed, by starting the construction on an unfavorable date.

After the shrine was erected, construction deaths stopped and the hotel grew very prosperous." - Sacred Destinations.

The attraction to here is enormous for tourists and it is always busy. There is the opportunity for you to have the trope dance for you - also very popular.'

Please remember that the pavements will be clear on a Monday.

The placing of the Shrine is relevant to the information above but only when you are there and the skytrain goes past, the motorbikes stream past you on the pavement and the cars make a lot of noise leaving the traffic lights that you realise that you really are in the heart of the Bangkok City.

There are always people selling birds to be released and I urge you not to buy the birds.

The Neilson Hayes Library

Tried to visit the Neilson Hayes Library last week and take back a book which my father had not returned twenty years ago (joke) only to find that it was in serious need of repair and they were asking for money.

(See more info here

But missed the Cafe until I was leaving...

Street Art in Phuket

The amount of Street Art in Phuket has taken a sudden rise recently - there seems to be a lot more than I initially recorded.

I was unable to complete the map that is below but please enjoy investigating Phuket.

With all these instances of the Street Art I was fascinated to read so little about it - mostly on Facebook and personal blogs.

But much has been changed for example here. These have been removed.

Platinum Fashion Mall Market

Platinum Fashion Mall is certainly somewhere to visit if you like to go shopping for some clothes. We go here for clothes for our daughter - and there is a great amount of choice.

In fact there are 5 floors of things to go shopping for - which is more than enough.

Well what do they sell? Well so much I can hardly begin to start.

The Platinum Fashion Mall is an enormous building which seems to go on forever in each direction.

There are small 'booths' selling the clothes and I was surprised at the amount of different clothes that they had on sale. We did not find the 'label' clothes and I have a feeling that this was not the right place.

I did think that the model with this was a little 'exaggerated' and then I wonder who actually buys this underwear? OR have I never...

There was other things for sale as well - a bit strange.

We got here by taking the river taxi to Pratunam which is also another enormous shopping mall to got to - but that's another day...
