Phuket Walking Street - Lard Yai

Phuket Walking Street (sometimes referred to as Lard Yai) is a closure of a main road in Phuket Old Town - Thalang Road and selling products to the locals. The focus was covered in my first post about Walking Street in December 2013.

There has been a degree of evolving but the pleasure here is that it has not become simply a commercial exercise and a Tourist Attraction.

It is every Sunday from approximately 5pm until 10pm and it is worth visiting.

The children play Thai chess with a local.

Here is Jamie's daughter having a go.

Jemma knows what she is doing?

Then there is the trampoline - much loved by Jemma.

Here is Jamie's son having a go on the trampoline.

Fancy a Horse shoe crab?

These Sago puddings are delicious - the best, now where is the best place in Phuket for them?

What are these people looking at / thinking?

Then of course shopping - fancy some big eyes?

How about a hat?

- a warmer hat?

A Harrod's Bag - here?

or Hello Kitty?

Then some bits... something for everyone - Have Fun.

Date: Sunday
Time: 16:00 - 20:00
Location: Thalang Road, Phuket Old Town

Foot Massage

I was waiting for the local bus and it was not there so I decided to wait in air conditioning whilst it turned up!

So there were coffee shops galore but i had had too much today and my feet ached after a walk up and down Rang Hill so a 'Foot Massage' it was.

N & Friend Massage! Wow - what a place to escape to!

The welcome was wonderful - the staff were full of smiles and I was certainly made to feel welcome. I sat at the front of the shop whilst she cleaned my feet.

As I relaxed with my book I looked around and found a little sign for TripAdvisor and also a little sign for the Free Wi-Fi!

The feet were washed and then the cream began on my lower legs...

It was at this time that I realised that this i quite a good idea if you ache - I sat back to relax but I found my self wanting to do things - I checked in on foursquare and then relaxed to read a book.

The treatment was very nice and it was in a great location but if you really want to 'relax' then to sit in the Front Window and watch people walk in would not be for you.

For a simple foot massage whilst waiting for the local bus it was great.

Phone Number: 095 245 5162 or 087 509 6006
Approximate Price: $$$$$
Address: 159 Ranong Rd, Phuket Town

Phuket Old Town Fresh Food Market

The Food Market in Phuket Old Town was not always like this - I remember (I have no photographs) of when it was a market which was under a suspended tent fabric! In fact Phuket Weekend Market is very similar. However they don't sell the food stuff in the same way as they do here.

Now the market is enclosed in a building built to match the Sino-Portugese buildings commonplace in Phuket Old Town.

I understand that the market is actually split into levels.

This does lead me into wondering what they would class as the level which is reached by walking down stairs - this is where most of the local restaurants can be found - there certainly is nothing in any other language on these menus!

Anyway as I was sorting through all of the photographs which I took I found a re-occurring theme - happiness!!

Even the ones cutting up the big pieces were having fun!

Then the Curry Pastes.

The chicken feet.

As you enter the market you will first be able to purchase the dry items - there seemed always to be a great selection of biscuits!

Moving inwards you will come across the fresh vegetables.

Then the meat.

At the back there was the fish -

being delivered!

I personally like this photograph of one of the workers having his breakfast within this environment!

Then this man had obviously been working hard!

A Sino-Portugese house, Khao Yam Dim Sum and exercise.

A Sino Portugese House reconstructed, a park next door and a fab Dim Sum Restaurant opposite - Khao Yam.

The Sino Portugese House has recently been reconstructed and Jamie has some great photographs

There is also an exercise park around the lake - which is  very popular in the early mornings and the afternoon.

Around the house they play Takraw in the afternoons -
not sure if this hurt when he came down?

Then the car park is sometimes full of people and aerobic exercise and others simply run around the lake.

Ocean Shopping Mall

Ocean Shopping Mall is a building housing a number of different products for sale - there are a lot of places to shop in Phuket.

The ground floor resembles a standard shop for clothes - there seems to be an inordinate number of labelled clothing (not premier label) and there never seems to be anybody buying very much.

There was a coffee shop at the front but that has gone - what is left at the front (on the left) is a Mister Donut and a Watsons (a Thai pharmacy). There is of course a cinema next door and more shopping!

If you go upstairs however then what is on offer changes dramatically!

We chose to come here for Jemma's nails to be painted and what a good job they did!  The best was a plethora of little toys for sale!

Then there was a smoking bong?

Then there were guns - not firing bullets? but...

Hair extensions, false eyelashes - big eyes and so much more...

wow - how about trying this one?
