Tesco Lotus

Tesco is somewhere which I remember being a supermarket when I lived in the UK but this is actually called Tesco Lotus.

It was not what I thought that I would be visiting whilst I was in Phuket.

Before you ask - NO I do not believe that you are able to use your Club Card but by all means keep your receipt and try to see if you are able to claim any points when you return home. Please contact me if this works (thisis2tim@yahoo.co.uk).

There is a fabulous selection of bits an pieces at an incredibly good price, then it is
air-conditioned as well.

I am sure that you will find something for somebody and they really are at a good price - although it does miss out on the fun on bartering for the best price...

But pop in here if you need to know an approximate price...

Buy a rice cooker here - they are cheap!

There are some clothes shops, a bank, a donut shop, some restaurants, a food mall on the top floor, Pink Pvssy and of course a Starbucks...

The Drawing Room

The Drawing Room is the first Artist that I visited in Phuket Old Town.

I enjoy visiting the Artist because I enjoy the feeling that I get.

Had a look at the cakes but there didn't seem to be anywhere to sit!

I first thought this had fallen over...

There's not more really that I can add... unless you are able to tell me more about the artist?

Love the door by the way - does it open?

Sang Tham Chinese Shrine

The Sang Tham Shrine was built in 1891 and given the Conservation Award by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 1987. The shrine is also recognised by the name of 'The Eternal Light of Dharma'.

The post here is a focus on the decorations which I had not previously noticed - there is so much to see. What is this step? Is it in all the Chinese Shrine?

The entrance and roof is decorated very carefully with the traditional tiles on the shaped stuccoes.

There is the original stuccoes still in a glass cabinet.

In between these decorations are a number of these Chinese figurines (or dolls). I would imagine that each figurine has a story but I would imagine that each one has a story attached to it but I would not know where to find the answer for this - do you?

There are also two intricate paintings on each side of the entrance to the actual area of worship.

I had never this figurine before - reminding me of a film character...

Then there was a small Buddhist statue...

วัดช่องลม (Wat Chong Lom)

วัดช่องลม (Wat Chong Lom) is a place we visited whilst we were in Bangkok for the weekend and I am surprised that I can find so little about it. Do you know why the Buddhist statue is the colour that it is?

I was under the impression that the name above (วัดช่องลม - Wat Chong Lom) was correct but after looking at the search engines I am not so sure...

Wikipedia had the right location (South of Bangkok in Samut Sakhon Province). Foursquare also matched this. But in terms of any real description I could not find any. TripAdvisor had one photograph but the correct map location.

There were the traditional statues outside - linked with the string which usually means that there has been a recent ceremony.

On entering into the main Temple (adjacent to the statue) I was taken with how life-like this statue was!

This was where the blessings were made.

this was the ceiling!

The walls were very intricate - wonderful...

Rung Market (behind Robinson's)

Rung Market is a local market which must be visited in the morning - 6am to 9pm - because it is simply not there after that!

It is not a market for everybody but there is everything. The street at the back and the sides are packed.

On the North side (between the Multiplex cinema) there are a lot of clothes shops and street market foods - specifically breakfast.

Then there are a places on the road where you can park your motorbike - the road is still there but it is very difficult to drive along there and I would avoid it if possible. Here is where you can buy animals to release somewhere else.

Then you have the great many places where they can see you fresh flowers and flowers to take to the temple of hang in your car. I took so many photographs of the ladies that are doing that I will have a singular post later...

Then there are the fresh foods.

Some of it is the simple raw meats - sometimes a little distracting.

You can find some fresh fish at very competitive prices - but don't expect the fish to have prices - the shrimps do however.

Then the market is closed before midday and the streets are empty. Then the small noodle shops set up around where the market was!
