Tin Mining in Phuket - an introduction

Tin Mining is something I first learnt about because I had close friends who worked for Thaisarco in Phuket - even getting a tour of the smelter...

Then there was the time that I wanted to have a coffee again in Phuket but Coffee Circle was not open so I wandered around a round-about with this vehicle around it...

The next time was when I was asked to find out about the culture and history of Phuket - so I went to the Phuket Cultural Centre.

Then there was the Kathu Tin Mine Museum to find out information.

Then there are the links from the Phuket Thai Hua Museum in Phuket Town.

There are a lot of things to investigate...

มูลนิธิกุศลธรรมภูเก็ต

มูลนิธิกุศลธรรมภูเก็ต is a Chinese Shrine a number of times because it is a wonderful example.

What drew me this time was the amount of 'weapons' which were distributed throughout the temple.

I would imagine that there use is the Phuket Vegetarian Festival.

I do not think that they are actually used like this but this is the only time that I have seen them out of their 'places' in the Chinese Temples.

After looking at these items I then found myself looking at all of the Chinese paintings adorning the walls - i would imagine that they all have some meaning behind them but I am currently unable to find a source for this.

Beautiful...

Not forgetting that it was the people who took me to Phuket International Hospital during a Phuket Vegetarian Festival.

Phuket Weekend Market - cultural

Traditional Thai puppets
Phuket Weekend Market was not always where it is now and I cannot recall when this was first opened but it is certainly a place to visit if you are in Phuket during the weekend. It is open on a Saturday and Sunday from 5pm until about 10 pm.

Buddhist amulets
So what do I tell people?
If you are on a mission to find fake pieces then this is not necessarily the market to come to. If that is not your itinerary then this may well be what you are looking for.

Mua Thai boxing materials
So are there fakes here? Yes there is but only if they are something popular with the Thai people - a variety of football shirts, handbags and Beats headphones can be found here.

There are a number of cultural items items which we found whilst we were here but there is no guarantee that you will find some of the items because some of the most interesting things are not always there...

There will always pieces which are linked to Buddhism but I am not always sugar they should be adjacent to naked figures...

Phuket Weekend Market is also on the other side of a Wat which is always worth a visit. I have lost count as to how many times that I have visited here so I have listed them below.

Big Buddha - underneath

The Big Buddha is somewhere which is a lovely place to visit and is certainly a destination which is greater for the tourist to visit.

Please recognise that there are some people at the entrance with some clothes for you to borrow when you want to enter.

I suggest that you always make a visit to the Big Buddha because there are some views which are beautiful.

The most interesting thing that I found the last time was he development of what was underneath the Big Buddha.

In fact it was quite beautifully interesting  and it reminded me of what was underneath the temple on Rang Hill.

I do not know what else will happen underneath the Big Buddha - but it is certainly worth visiting...

Phuket Aquarium

Phuket Aquarium is what I would call a 'traditional aquarium'. There are no fishing buttons to press, there is no 'touch me' areas, there is no 'activity books' (but if they ask me I will make one), there is a science & nature trail so please do not go there expecting something else. BUT it has been updated since my last visit.

There is a new display concerning the Secret of Pa-Luek Island.

There are lots of fish

- this one has always been my favourite.

They have begun to integrate technology.

The turtle breeding programs still progressing.

Then there is now a coffee shop...

The shop sells some up to date gifts...

Then you can have a Fish Spa...

They can now help you get a long-tailed boat from the local people. Don't forget there is a geocache back here...
