Phuket Floating Market (closed)
Phuket Flaoting Market was opened in May 2016 and it wasn't quite finished when we visited in August - so it may have been finished since then.
The market (I believe) is actually built in one of the lakes that the Tin Mining left Phuket when it was no longer used to mine the tin. So it was a good idea to use it.
However this means that it is not like the Floating Markets that you may have visit in Bangkok however. I think that the market is actually floating but tethered so there is very little feeling of it floating.
But the best thing about it was that there weren't many people there yet so it was simple to walk about and there were no crowds coming off buses (yet).
There really wasn't anything different that you could buy in the Weekend Market but it was certainly more comfortable. But in turn this made the prices higher.
I add here that there was a tip on foursquare that it was closing early and at 7pm 80% of the shops were closed...

Phuket Weekend Market - food
Phuket Weekend Market is certainly an attraction if you are visiting Phuket and it is also popular with the local people - there is sooooo much food to be had - we have visited a number of times....

The market opens at approximately 4pm and finishes at approximately 10pm but this is never exact. There are a plethora of different types of items to find in the ever increasing number of stalls that each time we go I find something different!
If it rains then you may well get wet because half of the market is standing on the football field. Pushing a pram or the suchlike is very difficult because of the quality of the floor and the fact that the 'corridors' can be so tight...
There are toilets there which you can use but remember to go there with some loose change with you - the last time we went I believe that the cost of this was 5 Baht.
So what foods do they have in half a football field?
Bits of animals that I cannot be sure of...
The cakes look delicious.
The chips are scrumptious - see if you can find them making the curly fries, it is a very clever machine...
Then there are the fish cakes - to nibble whilst wandering about.
If you really are in need for a kebab I was surprised that I found one here.
Not sure what a 'fish strip is' though...
Then it was time for an egg.
We then chose to sit down at one of the many tables and we had fish baked in sea salt (something worth trying whilst in Thailand).
Then you must have a herbed sausage whilst you are sitting here.
Then it was time for a pudding - we tried this Japanese ice-cream - certainly very different (not that I would have it again personally).
There are more that we did not try which I was surprised about - Japanese food and a lot of different stalls.
Then the strange bread and butter...
I suggest that you go hungry to the Weekend Market because it is a lot of fun trying all these different dishes. More about the Weekend Market will be written but older postings are below.

Phuket Weekend Market - cultural

Phuket Weekend Market was not always where it is now and I cannot recall when this was first opened but it is certainly a place to visit if you are in Phuket during the weekend. It is open on a Saturday and Sunday from 5pm until about 10 pm.

So what do I tell people?
If you are on a mission to find fake pieces then this is not necessarily the market to come to. If that is not your itinerary then this may well be what you are looking for.

So are there fakes here? Yes there is but only if they are something popular with the Thai people - a variety of football shirts, handbags and Beats headphones can be found here.
There are a number of cultural items items which we found whilst we were here but there is no guarantee that you will find some of the items because some of the most interesting things are not always there...
There will always pieces which are linked to Buddhism but I am not always sugar they should be adjacent to naked figures...
Phuket Weekend Market is also on the other side of a Wat which is always worth a visit. I have lost count as to how many times that I have visited here so I have listed them below.

Phuket Old Town Fresh Food Market
The Food Market in Phuket Old Town was not always like this - I remember (I have no photographs) of when it was a market which was under a suspended tent fabric! In fact Phuket Weekend Market is very similar. However they don't sell the food stuff in the same way as they do here.
Now the market is enclosed in a building built to match the Sino-Portugese buildings commonplace in Phuket Old Town.
I understand that the market is actually split into levels.
This does lead me into wondering what they would class as the level which is reached by walking down stairs - this is where most of the local restaurants can be found - there certainly is nothing in any other language on these menus!
Anyway as I was sorting through all of the photographs which I took I found a re-occurring theme - happiness!!
Even the ones cutting up the big pieces were having fun!
Then the Curry Pastes.
The chicken feet.
As you enter the market you will first be able to purchase the dry items - there seemed always to be a great selection of biscuits!
Moving inwards you will come across the fresh vegetables.
Then the meat.
At the back there was the fish -
being delivered!
I personally like this photograph of one of the workers having his breakfast within this environment!
Then this man had obviously been working hard!
