Jui Tui and Pud Jow Chinese Shrine

This is the Chinese Shrine which is located next to the more commonly know Jui Tui Shrine.  The Chinese Shrines are next to each other and there are several different roooms so I do not know where the demarkation line (if any exists).

This is not the only time that we have visited Jui Tui Shrine
June 2011
we have also visited for the Vegetarian Festival and the Baba Wedding Festival and
the 9 Chinese Shrines tour.

Bang Neow Chinese Shrine and it's figurines

Datuk Gong - Chinese Deity (i think)
The figurines in the Chinese Shrines is an attraction for me and there are so many of them! I started to try to do this previously when I visited Jui Tui Chinese Shrine and I haven't really got much further than then - but I will have a go.

I found a website with a list of Chinese God's names - but without full description and images.

Then another website I searched through...

Mysterious Lady of the 9th Heaven - I think

Cai Shen - God of Wealth (i think)
Juan Ti -  God of War and Fortune Telling
So I have not been able to do this again...

The next post will be the corner of the feminine gods....

Figurines already named
 1) Le Loh Chia - leads the Phuket Vegetarian Festival
 2) Tsai Shen Yeh - God of Wealth
 3) Cheng Huang - Town God or Religious Magistrate
 4) Sun Wukong - Monkey God
 5) Guang Gong

Phuket - Chinese Temples / Shrines

- here are some Chinese Temples that I visited in Phuket.

Saturday, 6 April 2013

Wat Kajorn - Chedi

This is a place which I stumbled upon because I missed a local bus whilst waiting for the local bus...

This little walk was a small diversion from what I normally do which is visiting the Chinese Shrines (Pud Jow and Jui Tui) at the top of the road or sit in the coffee shop on the corner - Coffee Max.

The set up of a Wat was adjacent to Wat Kajorn Municipal School and I was able to hear all of the children in their lessons. I was a little puzzled as to why the actual Wat was closed and locked and I was unable to go inside - the Chedi looked great.

It was still a lovely place to visit (if it is convenient) like waiting for the bus?

Chinese Temple Shopping

Chinese Temple Shopping is something which I was first introduced to when I was sitting in a coffee shop 'Sweet 'n Treats' at the bottom of Rang Hill and I watched a delivery arrive across the road of these items you see in every Chinese Temple.

When a friend in the UK wanted me to purchase some Moon Blocks (or Bwa Bwei 擲筊 Divination Blocks) for them I came here.

This particular shop is on the roundabout in Phuket Town where the local buses drop you and where there is a nice coffee shop - Phuketique (was Coffee Max) to visit whilst you are waiting for one to arrive. In fact the Chinese Temple Shop is opposite it on the other side of the road leading to the market and Jui Tui Shrine at the other end.

You might want to vist here for the same reason as me but there are a plenty of reasons to visit.

I always wondered where to get the enormous models of a car that are used in all types of Chinese Ceremony.

Then the money that is burnt.

Does anyone know what this treated wood is that they burn in the Shrines?

Click here for it's Location and below is a map - Shopping for the Shrine (2)

Phuket Town - The Circle

There is a special shop in Phuket Town and it is next to 'The Circle' and it is located at the circle in Phuket Town (makes sense) - directly opposite which is adjacent to the road which leads to Jui Tui Chinese Shrine and past the Phuket Town Market.

The shop itself is a fascinating plethora of cultural items of varying price and size. IT is certainly worth having a look in here for something different to take home for your friends or family.

The shop would not allow me to take photographs so sorry I have none inside.
Nice coffee shop (Coffee Max) on the same roundabout...

Jui Tui Chinese Shrine and it's figurines

Guang Gong

A fascinating thing to do is to look carefully at all of the figurines!
Le Loh Chia

This is the Spirit which leads the Phuket Vegetarian Festival.
Tsai Shen Yeh (God of Wealth)
One of the most powerful and popular Chinese Gods of Wealth is Tsai Shen Yeh who is frequently depicted wearing a dragon robe and sitting on a tiger. He also known at times as Lu Hsing the Star God of Wealth.

He carries a gold ingot and a sword. After he returned from a forest after studying the Tao, he was seen riding a black tiger in all directions and carrying a sword to ward off evil influences.

He is not meant to be worshipped but is there to symbolise money and wealth an attracts the same into the house. This is why he should be gold in colour (as the statue shown is) as like attracts like.
(text from Mercury Treasures)

Cheng Huang - the Town God

This is the God who looks after the Town or is referred to as the 'Religious Magistrate'.
Sun Wukong or The Monkey King
A favourite of many (including the media) because of his troublesome outcomes.

The Vegetarian Festival in Phuket - A MUST

Did I understand it all - not a hope.  The people who were part of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival were people who believed in what it was.

The day started early and we quickly met some people who were part of the Festival.

This MUST have hurt - i am unable to understand how they are able to this unless they are possessed or 'out of it' - click here if you would like to see more of this stomach wrenching displays.

The carnival atmosphere was electric and i was totally drawn into it all - even picking up a wrist bracelet given out by a spirit medium.  There was a plethora of people who were pierced in a plethora of different ways - click here if you want to see some photographs of them.

The procession included people outside their homes with a table of offerings set up to welcome the blessings of the spirit mediums.

Following this came the noise of the firecrackers and **** they did make a noise - many photographers and people involved in the parade did have ear plugs or ears stuffed with cotton wool - click here for a small flavour of what I saw.

I tried to collate a number of videos together but nothing could encompass the feeling of being in all that chaos.  I have compiled three videos which I have uploaded

The meeting with the Firecracker Man was amazing (above) - I was totally taken aback and it I will certainly be going again to see the Procession next year - I will read more of my text book so I will understand a little more about it - The Chinese Festival in Phuket.

Following this I took a trip into Phuket to watch the Fire Walking - but this was a disappointment - I think that Fire Running would have been a more appropriate title to give it! I did hear that one person did fall over whilst he was running over the flames however ............... BUT I have since read that the injured party failed this because of his own failure to stick to the rules!!

I was interested enough to find out a bit more about Fire Walking and after reading this article about Fire Walking I did feel that it was a con.

The atmosphere in Phuket Town near the Jui Tui Shrine and the Clock Tower was wonderful - a real pleasure to visit and see a wonderful phenomena.

There are a great many more photographs that I have taken, there are links to them and these are accessed best through the Cape Panwa Hotel photographic library - I will add these links later.

There are interesting reports in the Phuket Gazette - have a look.

This video was quite disturbing but interesting - click here
